The Essence of a Friend…

We have many, many, many, acquaintances in this life, But Few real friends.

When you think about it you want to be sad, Don’t this is how its supposed to be. I was trying to teach my teen daughter it is possible to have more than one best friend. where she argued a blue streak saying it just was not possible. I have learned otherwise there are different kinds of friends.

  1. The friendly acquaintance.
  2.        Your casual friend( you know the one from high school you call every 6 mo to a year just to make sure their breathing, go camping or watch the super bowl with, or Ladies you go shopping twice a year.)
  3.         Then there are your close friends,( You know the ones you hang with at the bar or coffee shop. once or twice a week.)
  4.        Best friend type A:(the one you take to the gym, see every other day but still no call’s after 11pm. and you share your every day struggles to a point)
  5.       BEST Friend best of the best.(the ones you call family even though you’re not related. Brothers from different mothers and sisters of the same. You share everything day or night ups, downs there is never TMI.)

For me, I love all unconditionally, and sometimes its hard to distinguish between 1&2.

but it happens and I get hurt. In explaining this to my daughter she started to get it.

Sometimes when I think of the people I consider family, some I have known for years and some only months and some I even never seen or I have but not in person all I do is talk to them on messenger or skype. but they are good people. you know how kids today say I have an app for that? well, I say I have a Friend for that.  I have friends that share in most all of my interests and I have friends that share life experiences, so when I need my friends I go to the ones that can help the most first and then the rest. to start a spiral justImage result for sea shells

like the structure of the large shell, I’m in the center and all my Friends and Family are gathered around creating this strong support network.

Are you Getting it yet? its the same for you. there are some simple rules to follow…

  1. Always be Honest (Don’t Lie to your Friends)
  2. learn when to plead the fifth, ( to say I have no opinion)
  3. Always Listen, even when you think they’re totally out of their mind.
  4.  Never Ever Take Your Friends For Granted!!!
  5. always have words of encouragement ready when needed.
  6. Don’t be afraid to tell your friends they are Messing up.
  7. If you can, give your friend the tools to get back on track. This is when I teach. If they have needs that need to be met, use your best judgment  and refer to rule 11.(as a rule, I always buy what they need if it concerns money if I have it. I never give Cash or checks to friends No offense.)
  8. Never leave an argument unsettled( if you cant agree, agree to disagree)
  9.  Always let your friends know how you feel.
  10. always let them know they are loved.(give hugs when needed)
  11. The word NO is not the end of a friendship.
  12. FORGIVENESS is not a weakness…
  13. All Apologies are from the heart and it is not a weakness to do so if you royally screwed up, is a sign of the strength of your character.

I’m the farthest thing from perfect, but I do try to be the best friend I can be.Hoping that my Friends love me with the same unconditional love I have and try to show them, even when they take me to my limits. You see I follow all these rules, and they work well for me, but sometimes, I lose sight of them and get hurt. so I have 3 I hold dear to me.

  1. Don’t Lie to me!
  2. Don’t steal from Me.
  3. Love me for me! Not what you think I can do for you or give you

And we will have a long and Prosperous Friendship.

You see A Friend Knows that there is no scorecard, we are always on even ground 2 humans, going through life’s journey with some of the same bumps, and some different, some Big like mountains, and some small like speed bumps on the road.

It is commonalities  (things in common) that bring most of us together. Yes, sometimes it is differences too.

Some of us take a long time in making Friends, and some it’s Besties from the very start.

so in this Toolbox, I give you some words for thought and growth:

all authors, not myself their names will be Highlighted in Red…

This first Poem  is by Charles Kingsley

A blessed thing it is for any

man or woman to have a friend,

one human soul whom we can

trust utterly, who knows the best

and worst of us, and who loves

us in spite of all our faults…

Why God Gave Us Friends

God knew that everybody needs

Companionship and cheer;

He knew that people need someone

Whose thoughts are always near.

He knew they needed someone kind

To lend a helping hand.

Someone to gladly take the time

To care and understand…

That’s why God gave us friends…

He knew that we all needed someone

To share each happy day,

To be a source of courage

When troubles come our way,

Someone to be true to us

Whether near or far apart,

Someone whose  love we’ll always hold

A treasure in our hearts…

That’s why God gave us friends.

No Greater Blessing

There is no greater blessing

Than a friend who always cares,

One who will remember us

In daily thoughts and prayers,

One who shares our happy times

And gives them added worth,

Who adds a touch of heaven

To all our days on earth.

Worthiness

It is my joy in life to find

At every turning  of the road

The strong arms of a comrade kind

To help me onward with my load;

And since I have no gold to give,

And love alone must make amends,

My only prayer is, while I live—

God make me worthy of my friends.

And finally, the poem in closing is by Anne Campbell Stark

The Perfume of Friendship

After the petals fall,

Perfume remains,

A sent in the green hall

Of country lanes.

And the clean breeze of spring

Blows over everything.

After a friend departs,

The essence of

His or Her spirit stirs our hearts

With faith and love.

Now he or she is homeward bent,

Our rooms are sweet

with friendship’s sentiment.

There are going to be times when your bestie is at their worst and you don’t feel wanted, BUT YOUR NEEDED … sometimes it’s not what we want but what we need that shows true friendship.     You only fail a friend when you give up on them…

Hugs and Love always, True friend forever, Trisha
